Scott Gustafson

Although Scott has had the opportunity to work on many projects throughout his career, it is in illustrating children’s books that he finds the greatest satisfaction. Over the years, he is primarily known for his work illustrating children’s classics such as Peter Pan, The Night Before Christmas, and the more recent titles, Classic Fairy Tales, Favorite Nursery Rhymes from Mother Goose, Classic Bedtime Stories, and his novel for young readers, Eddie: The Lost Youth of Edgar Allan Poe, which he wrote and illustrated.

Scott’s most recent book, Classic Storybook Fables, was released by Artisan after two years (and 49 new oil paintings) in the making! Artisan has also reprinted Classic Fairy Tales, Favorite Nursery Rhymes from Mother Goose and Classic Bedtime Stories, so we are very pleased that all these titles are available in bookstores everywhere.

Painting Commissions

When he has the time, Scott likes to work on compositional sketches that he would eventually like to make into new paintings, so if you’d be interested in seeing any of these concept drawings, or if you've ever considered a personal commission, please CONTACT US to discuss the possibilities!

Thanks to all the folks at the Norman Rockwell Museum who put this Meet the Artist Series of interviews together!

From July thru October, 2021, the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA hosted a wonderful fantasy show called: Enchanted: A History of Fantasy Illustration, and I was lucky to have my Mad Tea Party painting included in the show.

As part of their education outreach program, the museum hosted several live interactive events featuring some of the individual artists from the show, both in-person and virtually online. The Meet the Artist Series interviews included artists like Brom, Thomas Blackshear, Tyler Jacobson, Gary Gianni, and one with me back on 7/27/21. Now the video is on YouTube, and here’s a link. Hope you can check it out!

PAT GUSTAFSON

Scott and his wife and business partner, Pat, run Gustafson, Ltd. Studio in Chicago.

Pat also manages our online shop of Gustafson Studio Prints - so we hope you can check out all the prints and sizes! She can also help you with personalized book orders.

If you CONTACT US online, you'll most likely be communicating first with Pat, as Scott is usually either at the easel or the drawing board instead of the computer. In any case, we'll look forward to hearing from you!
